Our Story
Debbie McNeill - founder and owner of Beekind Food Wraps, with her granddaughter.
The inspiration for Beekind came during a visit to see my sister in Paparoa, New Zealand in 2017. Food wraps have been made there by the native peoples for thousands of years and we were struck by how eco-friendly they were, as well as being economical, very practical and easy to use. As we became more familiar with them, we also realised their potential for saving us money too!
As a family, we have always been keen to reduce our waste - thereby reducing our costs, as well as our impact on the planet. Increasing plastic waste is a global problem and we have always tried to do our bit to help. We also believe in the "waste-not, want not" philosophy, and are always eager to find ways of being frugal. When we were introduced to the food wraps in New Zealand, we were astounded by how simple and yet genius they were in so many ways and we were keen to continue this new passion back in the UK.
On our return, we began to source and make each material wrap with safe-blended honeybee wax, tree resin and Jojoba oil. As we expanded, we sourced more varied fabric designs, and continue to produce a wide range of designs, in multiple cut sizes. After seeking customer feedback, we also began to produce wax coins, to enable customers to make their own wraps - our DIY Kit was born! Our newest product is the 30cm roll - allowing customers to cut their own wraps in whatever size suits them.
We now sell wraps to families, shops and businesses all over the UK, via our website, Facebook and directly at fayres and shows. As a family business, we continue to listen to customers and their needs and look forward to expanding our range further as time goes by. In the end though, regardless of the diversity of our range, we remain passionate about the ethos of our product - we know it brings genuine benefits to our customers and we remain committed to enabling people to do their bit to preserve the planet too.
We have lots of tips for using the wraps and lots of information about them here on our website and hope that you find what you need here. Welcome and Happy Hunting!
